Membership180 was launched April 1, 2012 out of a real need in the membership business. Over the last several years, Chambers of Commerce have been forced to look at themselves with new eyes. They have had to look directly and intently at exactly what value they offer to their membership. They have had to come to terms with the reality that it’s not enough anymore to just host great networking events, they MUST be engaging in specific ways that meet the needs of the entire business community even if they AREN’T members of the Chamber. They have had to realize that engagement does NOT equal participation. Conversation after conversation with colleagues resulted in the knowledge that the existing formula of “Chamber as relationship-manager” was an outdated model and that it was time to turn in a new direction.

Jay Handler is our President/CEO. Since establishing the consultancy in 2012, Jay has worked on the ground with Chambers in 6 countries on 3 continents, including Pakistan, Afghanistan and the UAE on behalf of the British Government, and most recently with the oldest Chamber on the African continent in Cape Town, South Africa. Jay’s focus is on Organization Management and Marketing, and he was honored to receive the 2016 President’s Award from the Frisco (TX) Chamber for his work with that 4-Star Accredited organization.
Prior to getting involved in consulting with Chambers, Jay spent the better part of 15 years working in sales and sales management for corporate radio stations in Phoenix and Orlando before finishing his radio career in 2008 as the Senior Account Manager and Automotive Marketing Specialist for Cox Radio in Greenville, SC. He brings that management and marketing background to his work every day at Membership180.
Jay attended Western Illinois University, and graduated from the Institute for Organization Management at Villanova in 2014. Additionally, Jay has served as a faculty member of Institute, a frequent presenter at ACCE, and has been the keynote speaker at Chamber conferences across the US. He is looking forward to working towards his CAE in 2018.
Pete Havel joined Membership180 in July, 2017 with 20 years of high-level experience as a government affairs executive, Chamber president, Association professional, legislative strategist and strategic communications pro. He has served as Executive Director for the U.S. Chamber in the Southwest and Central U.S., and as Regional Director for the National Federation of Independent Business and Associated Builders and Contractors.
Pete has served as a consultant for Fortune 500 corporations, start-ups and trade associations. A featured speaker at Chamber, Association and corporate conferences across the U.S., Pete offers training in policy and governmental affairs best practices, organizational culture, communications, social media, generational shift and can work with Chambers directly on dues restructuring.
